In the mountainous countryside, near the village of Dullstroom, you’ll find a reserve that you won’t want to leave. The drive along a  paved and smooth road is perfect for any vehicle, and takes you  through untouched grassland wilderness and farmlands. Once you enter the gates to Amberley Mountain Reserve you are rewarded with, arguably the most incredible panoramic view of the highlands escarpment which stretches out for kilometres into the distance.

The road then winds down the hills towards the lodge, giving you the chance to take in the grasslands, estates and farmlands as far as the eye can see.  Keep a look out for zebra, red hartebeest, springbok and black wildebeest along the way. I doubt a single bird watcher could make this drive without a few stops either. Rocky outcrops, indigenous forests and plantations will bring out the explorer in anyone.

The lodge itself is luxurious, private and spacious. It works just as brilliantly for large family getaways as is does for intimate conferencing and workshops. Whether sitting at the impressive custom made walnut bar or relaxing at the pool, while the resident horses pop past on their evening walk, you’ll feel peaceful and more than comfortable.

Amberley Mountain Reserve Cottage stands on a hillside overlooking valleys teaming with game and dams filled with trout. Set on a private reserve just 8km from Dullstroom Amberley Mountain Reserve is an exclusive country estate on which this family home is positioned. The farm is set well above Dullstroom at about 2100m above sea level so expect temperatures three or four degrees cooler than Johannesburg.  and set away from the main lodge. However close enough for groups entertaining together.

True to the greater Dullstroom area, Amberley has six large crystal clear spring fed dams. Enjoy the challenge of fly fishing or the tranquillity of being near the pristine waters. Amberley Mountain Reserve offers exclusive, private accommodation with beautiful views of the countryside on an impressive country estate. If you’re lucky enough to experience it once, you’ll make sure to return whenever you can.
